Like it's neighbour island Koh Tao, this island has been first found by young people searching a sanctuary from the overcrowded
yoga resorts.
Without question, Kho Phangan has some of most postcard like
beachesanywhere in Thailand.
Phangan has also a number of luxury hotels to offer, to name just a few as example or Sun Set Cove. Both of them have a high class service and a general high standard.
The weather in Thailand can be very equatorial, high temperature and wet. Often climate changes are caused by monsoons which create three distinct weather seasons in northern Thailand and two distinguishable seasons in southerly Siam. Monsoon in the southern areas happens approx May to Oct is warm and the sky is cloud covered, whereas in north-east monsoon approx November to Mar is almost waterless and comparatively cool.
Whatever it is you are looking for, on the
island is something for everyone.
Phanganhas now over 250
resorts and spas to choose from, with a broad range of budget 80 THB per night bed with roof and four walls with no toilet to aircon house with a swimming pool.
Situated around 12 miles north of Koh Samui in the Gulf of
Thailandis the
island of Koh Phangan. The Island is much quieter and relaxed than Samui, just with the exception of the
full moon beach
party where every month between 5 - 10,000 visitors come on the island for the over crowded
full moon on the east side
beachof
HaadRin.
The cheapest way to travel from Bangkok to Koh
Phangan would be to get tickets from Songserm Travel Center for ferry and express boats, bus, train, air to the island. Another option is to get an 1 hour flight by Bangkok Airways every few hours from Bangkok to Koh
Samuiand take the catamaran speed boat to Phangan.
You can use the roads to HaadRin, but you have been warned that the roads are not in the best state and unless consider yourself a competitant motorbike rider then do not try to get to
HaadRin, as most accidents involving scooters happen in this area. Our advice is to leave your motorcylce at the 7/11 at BaanTai and pay approx 50 Baht for a pick up over the mountains to HaadRin.
